History

The Flute Ensemble Siang-Nanachart is a professional ensemble comprised of Bangkok based flutists, and features entire flute family including piccolo, concert flute, alto flute, bass and contrabass flute.

Founded by Hiroshi Matsushima, Suratchai Chenyavanij, Jakkrit Maliwan, Chatchapon Jiamjanyoung and Plain Tangsaereemonkong in 2005, the ensemble has been touring all over Thailand to introduce flute, popularize flute method and bring live music to a wide range of communities in the country.

In 2005, the first concert of the ensemble was given at the College of Music Mahidol University. Since they started workshop and concert tour in 2006, Siang-Nanachart has quickly been recognized as one of the most active performance groups in Thailand. In the past 5 years, they toured major cities in Thailand: Phuket (2006/2009), Chiang Mai (2007), Chonburi (2007/2009), Ubon Ratchathani (2008), Maha Sarakham (2008), Udon Thani (2008), Hat Yai (2009) and Songkhla (2009), besides holding concerts in Bangkok every year. In 2009, the ensemble was expanded its formation by purchasing a Contrabass flute, the first and only instrument in the country. In 2010, Siang-Nanachart celebrates the 5th anniversary of the founding and makes a concert tour to northern Thailand.

The ensemble's versatility enables to perform music of not only standard flute repertoire but also orchestral arrangements, pops, jazz, musical, Thai and ethnic genres. Brilliant sound, beautiful harmony, solid ensemble, unique interpretation, dynamic and masterful performances are the hallmarks of the group, which reflect the throbbing pulse of its home city, Bangkok.

Siang-Nanachart invites flutists of all the levels and ages to annual workshops, where they can experience the limitless possibilities of flute playing. They also offer high level masterclasses by the members or guest artist.

Through their concerts, workshops and outreach activities, the energetic members of the ensemble wish to make a large contribution to the growth of flute and music society in Thailand.

Our Logo and Name

Our logo originated from the "Kang Kaw Kin Kluwai", one of the most famous Thai folk songs and describes both a bat eats banana and playing flute, embodies our intention of spreading the flute and flute music to whole country, and the entire nation will know about this instrument.

Our name "Siang-Nanachart" literally means "international sound". It is also our goal to contribute raising the musicianship of Thailand truly to the international level.
